This special piece needs your care before its first use if it is going to be in contact with food. Wash it with a brush, water, soap and rub raw corn grains with the tejolote (mallet) and it will be ready. Because it is a porous and natural material without any coating, it will darken when in contact with oils.
It is normal to release dust, which are the non-toxic minerals of the stone.
